Construction

Springs Valley – Mr. Hounshell

First-year students will be entering the program enrolling in the “Introduction to Construction” class. This class spends a lot of time looking at careers in the industry, the basics of building, as well as job site safety. We start with the very basic skill of learning to read blueprints as well as a tape measure. Students are introduced to the concept of building, as well hand and power tool safety. These students complete a variety of construction projects here at school. Some of these projects are for the school, while some fill the needs of the community. Students will be participating in a “Deck Fair” where they design and construct their own “dream deck”. This is a fun project as students are able to interject their own creativeness into the project. This class helps ready students for entering Construction Tech I and II which students leave campus and participate in projects where we partner with Habitat For Humanity, as well as doing other projects for individuals such as house additions and other home improvement projects. These students will also have the opportunity to receive dual credit through Vincennes University. Courses will cover CNST 100- “Intro To Construction Careers ”  and CNST 120- “OSHA  Safety.” These classes offer free college credit at V.U. Students will also have the opportunity to work toward their 10 hr. OSHA card, which will make them more employable after high school. For more information email me at bhounshell@lrcc.k12.in.us
